Swimmers are stop-motion animations made with the refractory properties of real water on glass made by Rollin Leonard. Combinatory creatures made of everything from sunflower seeds to iguana skin to galaxies, the Swimmers are a collection of 22 unique animations on a custom smart contract on the Ethereum blockchain.
The Swimmers are born out of the seeds of common material and living things. They are a kaleidoscopic combination of rocks, orchids, pugs, butterflies, and more. The world of the Swimmers is a speculative fiction, where the earth's former varied biomass has been replaced with new life forms made up of the creatures and plants humans consume and love most. Nature cannot escape itself, as we cannot escape the environmental pressures we have placed on ourselves. Despite the climate apocalypse we're creating, some form of life will likely persist and new organisms will come out of what we have left behind, including, perhaps, a part of ourselves.
Here’s a video about how I make the Swimmers.
